Netherlands moved on to the last eight of the Women’s World Cup in France yesterday as Lieke Martens converted a 90th minute penalty.
Japan knocked out Netherlands four years ago at the same stage in Canada. It was the Asian side who took the lead in the 43rd minute through a nice team goal scored by Yui Hasegawa but they were no match for the Dutch delight. It is the first time there is no Asian team at this stage of the competition which fuels the tank of uncertainty yet to come.
