Portugal were crowned winners of the inaugural UEFA Nations League competition after defeating Netherlands by a 1-0 scoreline in Porto. The European champions dominated both halves of the game and emerged victorious as Goncalo Guedes’s venomous shot on the hour mark was enough to separate the sides.

The final was poised spectacularly with star men in both the teams but Ronald Koeman’s exciting squad was unable to break through the Portugal defence as they squandered chances of their own. Virgil Van Dijk stood like a solid rock in the Oranje defence and kept opposition attackers at bay, a performance which did not justify him being on the losing side.

Bernardo Silva was named player of the tournament and Frenkie de Jong scooped the young player of the tournament award in what turned out to be a thrilling competition which is just a sneak peak of what is going to happen in the UEFA Euro 2020.
