Lewis Hamilton recovered a 20 second deficit to beat Max Verstappen in the last stages of the Hungarian Grand Prix yesterday. Sebastian Vettel finished in the podium after changing to fresh tyres. overtaking his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc.
Mercedes used a strategy of using a fast tyre type as a gamble which payed off in dramatic fashion. The race was poised for an epic battle in the latter stages after Verstappen shrugged off the Hamilton charge in the 39th lap.
Hamilton has a total of 250 points in the driver’s championship, 62 points ahead of teammate Valtteri Bottas.
