United States women won their fourth World Cup on Sunday after beating Netherlands 2-0 in the final. Megan Rapione opened the scoring in the 61st minute with a penalty kick as Dutch keeper Sari van Veenendaal kept the opposition at bay with four wonderful saves in the first half.
Rose Lavelle ensured the win with a 69th minute strike that eased into the bottom right corner. Alex Morgan could not add to her tally which meant that Rapione won the Golden Boot and Golden Ball awards of the tournament.
